Classical South West Turkey
For centuries Turkey has acted as a bridge between the differing cultures and economies of Europe and Asia. Turkey’s fortunes have ebbed and flowed, from prime position in the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires to the struggle to develop into a modern industrial state during the 20th century. The South-West region is a magnificently scenic and historically fascinating area, where the southern Aegean meets the Mediterranean. The area known popularly as the Turquoise Coast, due to the intense colour of the sea, is densely packed with ancient cities and charming little villages.
You will use bases in the Aegean resorts of Izmir, Kuadasi and Bodrum and the tiny town of Dalyan on the South-Western Mediterranean, to explore the cultural and historical richness of the region, visiting the major sites of interest in the area.
